2018 Mazda6 Review

There was already plenty to like about the Mazda6, but recent changes to its engine lineup, handling, and design make it even more appealing in 2018. It’s difficult to find a sport sedan that lives up to its title, but this one delivers.

Drivers in Doral, Miami, Hialeah, and Kendall can learn what’s changed for the new 2018 Mazda6.

Performance and Handling

The new engine option for the Mazda6 is a SKYACTIV-G® 2.5T Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This higher-output engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but a 6-speed manual is available. Front-wheel drive is standard.

Several chassis and suspension upgrades were designed to offer better feel and responsiveness from this new engine, while the same road manners and precise steering carry over for the new year.

Style

Mild updates to the attractive Mazda6 give it an upscale look that’s sure to impress a variety of buyers. There are chrome accents on a shield-shaped grille for a little distinction, while the overall shape and profile have a sporty, high-performance edge that ties the entire look together.

Inside, the Mazda6 interior received a 2-tier dashboard with synthetic leather and contrasting French stitching for an elegant aesthetic. The infotainment system fits nicely into the dash without detracting from the classic look of the cabin, while also promoting usability and functionality.

Interior

Suede, cloth, leatherette, or leather upholstery options are available throughout the Mazda6 trim levels and combined with the new padded seats in the front and back, the Mazda6 interior is comfortable and pleasant for long rides. It’s always been a spacious vehicle, but the new model creates more head- and legroom for passengers with its new interior design. The Mazda6 uses a thick-rimmed steering wheel and large gauges for a sportier look as well, and the climate controls have been moved out of sight, but still within easy reach.

Ventilated seating is also available for the 2018 model, as well as a 7-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster. The infotainment system can be upgraded to an 8-inch touchscreen system as well, which offers better graphics, more intuitive controls, and plenty of entertainment features.

Safety

The Mazda6 scored well on both federal and independent safety tests and includes a full complement of standard safety equipment, such as airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes.

Advanced safety features for this vehicle include a surround-view camera system, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic Emergency Braking. A head-up display is also available, which allows you to monitor vehicle information directly in front of you, without taking your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel.
