The 2021 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with a Skyactiv^®-G 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, outputting 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. As for the RAV4, its standard engine is also a 2.5L 4-cylinder, however, it falls a bit short, achieving just 184 lb-ft of torque.

Furthermore, Mazda also offers an available 2.5L Skyactiv^®-G Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine that generates 320 lb-ft of torque. While Toyota offers its own additional engine as well, it only delivers 176 lb-ft of torque. That’s even less than Mazda’s standard engine.

To make driving more thrilling, the Mazda CX-5 comes standard with Skyactiv^®-Vehicle Dynamics with G-Vectoring Control Plus. This system helps to facilitate a smoother ride, particularly when cornering. Unfortunately, the Toyota RAV4 doesn’t offer any similar driving systems.

The interiors of these refined vehicles feature plenty of amenities to keep you comfortable, no matter the distance you’re traveling.

This is most noticeable when it comes to seating, especially up front, where both vehicles feature standard 6-way and 4-way adjustable driver and passenger seating, respectively. Moreover, while Mazda and Toyota also offer optional 8-way adjustable driver’s seating, the Mazda CX-5 adds available 6-way adjustable seating for the front passenger. The Toyota RAV4 caps off its front passenger seating at four ways of adjustments, so you may find more comfort in the Mazda CX-5.

Interior styling is another aspect where these vehicles differ. The 2021 Mazda CX-5 offers premium materials throughout the cabin, such as available Caturra Brown Nappa leather seats, genuine layered wood trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. While the Toyota RAV4 does feature available SofTex^®-trimmed seating, a leather option is not available.

The nucleus of the Mazda CX-5’s connectivity lies within its standard 10.25-inch full color infotainment display. The Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, has a smaller 7-inch standard infotainment display. They do share some commonalities, though, like standard smartphone connectivity, making it easier than ever to enjoy your favorite music or gain access to navigation applications.

Mazda’s technology isn’t just limited to entertainment. In fact, the brand uses these advancements to boost your confidence as well. Take the available Active Driving Display with Traffic Sign Recognition, for example. Here, important driving information—including current speed limit signs and navigation instructions—are displayed right onto the windshield to help keep your eyes on the road.

Unfortunately, the Toyota RAV4 doesn’t offer this feature, so you’ll have to rely on the display to read road information and navigation.
