MAZDA CX-9 vs Kia Telluride: Performance & Fuel Economy
The Mazda CX-9 and Kia Telluride each boast their own powerful engines, with the Mazda model offering a turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain and the Kia model offering a V6.
Power outputs from these engines are quite similar, with one producing a higher horsepower number and the other offering more torque. The Kia Telluride’s engine delivers 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, while the Mazda CX-9 engine produces 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The fuel economy is also similar on the two, with the Mazda CX-9 managing to edge out the Kia Telluride slightly. On the Mazda model, you’ll be able to travel up to an EPA-estimated 22 city/28 highway MPG with front-wheel drive.1 On the Kia Telluride, your front-wheel drive fuel economy will be an EPA-estimated 20 city/26 highway MPG.
MAZDA CX-9 vs Kia Telluride: Interior Amenities
These two SUV models make sure to include interior amenities that appeal to both you as the driver and your fellow passengers. These include available ventilated front seats, a hands-free power liftgate, and Push Button Start. However, the Mazda CX-9 includes some additional standard features you either won’t find on the Kia Telluride or that you’d have to upgrade to.
For example, the Mazda CX-9 comes standard with three-zone automatic climate control, while the Kia Telluride only offers manual air conditioning. A 3-zone system is perfect for a three-row SUV because it allows custom preferences for those sitting up front, as well as your rear passengers. Unfortunately, the only upgrade available on the Kia Telluride is a dual-zone system, which still leaves rear passengers out of the equation.
The Mazda CX-9 also includes a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support as standard. The Kia Telluride, on the other hand, offers another manual system for moving the seats. You’ll have to move up to a higher trim level if you want power seats and power lumbar support.
MAZDA CX-9 vs Kia Telluride: Technology
Entertainment is an easy find on these models and both include connections to various systems. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard, so you’ll be able to call family, get directions to a friend’s house, and enjoy your own playlists. You can also find an available wireless phone charger on each model.
For more sophisticated driving guidance, you can upgrade to either model’s in-vehicle navigation system. However, you’re going to find a more helpful feature on the Mazda CX-9.
Available on the two highest trim levels is a 3-year subscription to SiriusXM® Traffic and Travel Link. This awesome upgrade keeps you informed about live traffic information, what the weather forecast is, and how some of your favorite sports teams are doing. It also lets you know how much fuel costs and can help you figure out where to park. Unfortunately, this subscription can’t be found on the Kia Telluride.
